MEET OUR FOUNDERS
Dennis and Peggy Hamilton have been married more than 50 years and have 3 sons and 2 grandchildren. Their desire to minister to men in crisis is rooted in their past experiences and painful struggles. At the age of 9, Dennis found himself abandoned and neglected, wandering the streets. For the next 7 years he was involved in street gangs, selling drugs, and living with no purpose or direction. Peggy grew up in an abusive home; her parents were alcoholics and at times very violent. She learned first hand these situations always leave victims behind. Dennis and Peggy ran away and got married at a young age. With no direction and the pressures of being a husband and provider, Dennis turned back to drugs and alcohol to get through life. Thirteen years later, Dennis accepted Christ, was saved, and instantly delivered from his drug addictions. Peggy also accepted Christ and soon they begin to work with the Union Rescue Mission, ministering to the homeless. They eventually moved from the inner city to the country and started New Beginnings.

On January 15, 2023, Peggy moved home with Jesus. She was the silent backbone of our ministry. Dennis wrote this about her as they were first building the Ministry, “Anytime I was ready to give up, throw in the towel by saying I had missed the Lord, she always brought me back to the center by reminding me of the gifts and callings on my life. Her vision was always clear, seeing past every battle and every challenge God put in front of us.” Peggy always stood firm on her beliefs and faith in Jesus.
After much thought and prayer, we honored our beloved co-founder by changing our ministry name to Standing Firm Ministries.
Although our name has changed, we are still the same ministry serving Jesus daily and helping men stand firm in their walk to overcome addiction through an unshakable relationship with Jesus.
